Senior Software Systems Developer: (Emphasis on Hardware Abstraction)
Varia Mobile is looking to hire an experienced systems engineer to help build and expand a hardware abstraction layer to free our mobile applications from the semantics and patterns of a single OS. The person who is right for this position would be excited about diligently working on the cutting edge, while desiring the freedom to explore technical roads that would make an impact on the mobile software community as a whole.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of UNIX kernel facilities as well as process capabilities and restrictions, understanding of other kernel architectures desirable.
- Ability to program in C/C++ and/or C#
- Strong Architecture and Design Skills
- Functional understanding of more than one runtime in a multi-threaded environment.
- Strong understanding of basic protocol construction and derivation.
Software Developer: (Emphasis on Test tools and Hardware Emulation)
Varia Mobile is looking to hire a seasoned SDET looking to expand their boundaries and push their skills to the limits. An individual is needed to support the test and development efforts for Linux-based mobile applications. This position does not report through a test organization, as test is not the only consumer of its services.
Requirements:
- Ability to visualize a system in terms of its layers and inter- dependencies.
- Strong C/C++ coding skills.
- Proven ability to write code and design frameworks that isolate components and exercise functionality from core to boundaries.
- Deep understanding of compilers and debuggers.
Software Engineer: (Extremely stong emphasis on C++ skills)
Varia Mobile is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to maintain and expand our Linux-based mobile application framework. Are you looking for a closely-knit team of smart people who love what they do? All of us were at one point, and now we've found it, and we hope that you can too! If you enjoy learning new technologies and are skilled at rapidly achieving mastery of new coding environments, you may be the ideal addition to our team. - Desire to work with a small, fast-paced team of smart software geeks
- Desire to work on exciting, cutting-edge technologies in the mobile space that end up running on a device that your friends can hold in their hands
- Strong C++ skills (not just C, please!)
- Experience working and developing in a Linux environment
- Knowledge of streaming protocols such as RTP/RTSP
- Familiarity with XML, XPath
- Experience working with an object model such as COM or GObject
- Experience working on a project through the entire software development cycle

Software Systems Engineer: (emphasis on Hardware Adaptation) Position Filled
Varia Mobile is looking to hire an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team, who will be focused on adapting in-house Linux-based software to multiple hardware platforms/architectures. The right individual must be able to work closely with our hardware design and design consulting team to come up with solid adaptation solutions. The person who is right for this job is obsessed with the details, wanting to make sure everything is done just right. This job is not for the faint of heart, but right for someone seeking a challenge.
Requirements:
- Experience writing low level device drivers
- Solid understanding of OS fundamentals
- Ability to read schematics and component data sheets Understanding of/and experience with different SOC's
- Practical experience with bus mastering protocols and/or networking stacks (including USB)
Software Test Engineer: Position Filled
Varia Mobile is looking to hire an experienced STE who has a track record like the Orkin Man: finding bugs and killing 'em dead! The right individual will be focused on creating test cases, executing them under deadline, and performing daily testing according to prescribed procedures. The right individual must be able to work closely with our hardware and software design team to come up with best practice testing procedures. The person who is right for this job is obsessed with the details, wanting to make sure everything is tested thoroughly and properly. "Good enough" is not good enough around here, but "As good as it can possibly be at all costs" is a start. Start chanting that mantra now, and give us a holler if you've got what it takes to step up to the plate and swing for the fences, slugger! This job --- like the rest of the positions at Varia Mobile -- is not for the faint of heart, but right for someone seeking a challenge and who wants to work with a group of goofy, but straight-up tech-savvy hep cats, who know how to have fun!
Requirements:
- Experience writing and performing test cases; executing written cases and updating/modifying as needed under deadline
- Solid understanding of best-practice SW test techniques, including Test Track Pro, Test Link, and other STE-related software programs
- Ability to script your test areas of ownership; bash scripting experience necessary
- Practical experience with debugging, and self-analysis of bugs, in order to give development a good starting point to track down/investigate potential SW issues
- EXCELLENT written skills to describe and report issues and execute/write test cases and scripts; also EXCELLENT communication skills to effectively work with all team members from HW, SW and Test.
- Must be a deadline-oriented individual who thrives under the pressure of tight schedules
- Fluency with Linux/open-source an ABSOLUTE requirement; also fluent via Windows and Mac OS
